Paneling is an easy, cost-effective way to upstyle your home decor
When we downsized from a light, airy, home loaded with character to an older house in desperate need of an update, finding the right wall treatments to add a fresh, modern vibe was a top priority.
And a simple paneled wall, or two.....yeah, that turned out to be just what the doctor ordered.
Sophisticated and budget-friendly, paneling is a great ways to add texture and interest to a tired space. A perennial favorite for both new and older houses alike, it has the ability to pretty much transform a room. And a home.
And one glance at my home's interior and you know I couldn't agree more!
In our master, a full length paneled wall in off-white was the perfect fix (Feature) for a dark, heavily wallpapered bedroom.
The large square pattern of this paneling not only added a handsome architectural edge, but acted as the perfect backdrop for our upholstered headboard and black lacquered side tables (above).
And for our small but mighty former mud-room (above) turned additional-kitchen-storage-area, floor to ceiling 5" paneling created a friendly, inviting transition to the laundry room and garage--a night and day upgrade from the drab, tan painted walls of before.
And here's a great tip if you're considering paneling as an upgrade: Roman Hudson suggests narrow planked wood wall treatments are best used for service areas--baths, mud rooms, etc. Wider planks offer a bit more dressy or sophisticated aesthetic.
Either way, they're a perfect, cost-effective solution for any room makeover.......and will always find a place in my homes and spaces.
