Isn't it amazing how great design inspiration is everywhere?
No surprise so much of what inspires me this week---and for weeks to come---springs from all things summer. The sights, the sounds, the fragrance, textures and colors this season has to share is downright intoxicating. And don't even get me started on anything that draws a water vibe my way. From sea, to coast to shore...yep, I'll take it all!
Here are a few things that make me smile and inspire my aesthetic....
I want one: (above) Apparently, I've acquired a thing for boathouses. Especially, when they look like the one featured in this post via One Kings Lane!! But who could blame me? Settling in for an afternoon tea in this stylish, modern hide-away? All I can say is, well done--you got my attention. Btw, that ceiling fixture against the white washed paneled walls = irresistible . And right at the top of my wishlist. Photo: James Merrell, design: @thomfilicia.
social climber: I've always had a thing for climbing roses and love tucking them into cozy corners, close to seating, so they free-flow around brick walls and furniture like a big embrace. This year's new addition is a charmer: Easy Elegance, a fast growing chameleon that buds pale yellow then softens into a light pink-edged bloom. It's perfect for creating a warm welcome at a front entry. Just darling!
This hardy, new climber replaces an old favorite, below, that I planted when we first moved into at our home several years ago. Hope this new gal thrives and brightens our front door for years to come.
screen shot: Now THIS is a screened-in porch! Forget those creepy, spider-filled, cigar smelling spaces from before. Elegant, casual and inviting, it's how a screened porch should be. And with this beautifully composed table arrangement and setting, looks pretty much like the ideal spot for summer entertaining. seaside inspired: I fell hard for these Sea Urchin Bowls featured in the July/August issue of Coastal Living Magazine. Extraordinary, inspiring....and just plain stunning, artist Laura Kramer of LBK Studio, meticulously captures the natural beauty and detail of these unique sea creatures. Perfect for a coastal inspired home.
Also a big fan of Pottery Barn's seasonal line of water-themed accessories. In fact, a few of these actually made it home with me--- just the thing for adding a pop of color and fun to my bathroom shelves and glass bowls. And a great go-to essential for home staging.
dog days: Truly, with that smile and charming fur face, who wouldn't begin their day with a big dose of inspiration? From smelling flowers to fulfilling her number one responsibility as landscape model, our lab, Blue, is the ideal garden dog and front porch companion. Summer wouldn't be the same without the old girl!
don't miss this: And finally, for a big hit of design inspo, check out a great new feature from one of my fave design groups, Studio McGee. Their latest venture, the Two-Day Transformation, takes a room from everyday-so-so to Oh My God..I love It! From start to finish, you'll share the step-by-step, behind the scenes genius of their creative process. So fun to watch the Studio McGee team in action. Well worth a look!
