Love the coast? The shore? The water's edge? Then no doubt there's a hint of a water color palette somewhere in your home's aesthetic.
Just as it is here along Chicago's North Shore.
With Lake Michigan right outside our door, it's no surprise we're such big fans of the endless blues, aquas, musky grays and taupes that make up the ever-changing range of colors that say coastal.
But finding the perfect shade for your phase three home decor---the one that captures the essence of what you love most about the water? Not always so easy to do.
Grays go too blue. Taupes go green. And aquas, uh, don't even go there.
So whether you live near the shore.....or just wish you did, there's an art to finding the perfect seaside-inspired color for your dining room wall.
Just ask Atlanta designer, artistic painter and color expert, Patricia Presto, owner of On The Surface.
From restyling the finish on a favorite piece of furniture to rethinking the color scheme for an entire home renovation, Presto understands... color. And helping her clients select the right palette for their home is what she does best.
Here Patricia Presto shares her tried-and-true method for swatching the perfect coastal color for your decor and surroundings!
*Color and..... Color isn't just color: "Keep in mind, it's also about shade, depth, hue and intensity," explains Presto.
*Fan-tastic Make a fan deck your new best friend when selecting a color, especially when swatching one single hue from a broad spectrum of like colors as in water or coastal palettes. Patricia suggests you hold the fan deck right up to the image for best results. And note the color base so you can see where it's going.
*Lighten up For your final selection, always consider a step or two lighter for your best shade.
*Test it out See how it actually fits in your home before making a final decision. How does the color work with the surrounding rooms? How does it change with the light throughout the day. The key word is FLOW.
Here's a few of her favorite picks from this season's best. Take a look!
